Nationwide Labour Protests: Enugu Judiciary Headquarters under lock and key.

The Enugu State headquarters of the High courts is under lock and key with lawyers seen milling outside the gate. The situation is sequel to the nationwide protest called out by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, TUC over the hardship being experienced by Nigerians and the inability of the federal government to meet the workers demands. The staye branch of the judicial Workers Union effected the closure of the gate thereby forestalling sittings of courts in Enugu.

A lawyer who was caught in the mesh, Mrs Chioma Imunna told Drumnewsonline that she came to the court for her matter and met the gate closed with her fellow lawyers wandering outside. According to her, the closure would affect some case however, we need a better deal in Nigeria. “If the labour Protests can bring positive results let them go on” she said. She called on the labour executives to be steadfast and not to sell out to the government. “Nigerians are suffering immeasurably “, she concluded.

A meeting held last night at rhe Presidency with government and Labour officials present could not stem the proposed protest. The Labour leader, Mr Ajaero was reported to have said at the end of the deadlocked meeting that the protests must go on nationwide.
