2023 Elections: Obi, Labour Party in early lead?

With the Presidential and National Assembly elections held yesterday and continuing this Sunday in some parts of the country where voting was not concluded yesterday, feelers coming out from some polling units where results had been collated and announced in the Southeast and some other geopolitical zones showed that Mr Peter Obi and the Labour Party were showing maximum strength to coast home to victory. Though the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters has not published the final official results. The showing of Labour Party which joined the fray as the third force in the nation’s political space has come as a breath of fresh air to Nigerians yearning for change. The social media have been awash with results from different polling units across the nation.

The much older parties, Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressive Congress with their Presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu, respectively, are trailing behind in the polls results from the polling units even in States where they were perceived and expected to have strangle holds.

However there were unconfirmed reports in the social media that efforts were being made to manipulate the results in Rivers and Lagos State in favour of the candidate of one of the established parties. To this end, Obi-Datti Campaign Organization had issued a public statement warning of bizarre consequences should the mandate of the people be changed.
