The recent declaration by the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha that former Senate President Ken Nnamani, is the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East contradicts the party’s constitution, Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige has said. Briefing newsmen, Ngige and the National Vice Chairman of the APC in the South-East, Chief Emma Eneukwu, said the party’s constitution does not provide for such a position. Ngige said: “There’s no such position in our party’s constitution. No clause or section of the constitution provides for such position in our party. It’s a storm in a teacup; we don’t want that to cause disunity. So this is a non-issue at all”.
Also speaking, Eneukwu said, “the issue of leadership, when you look at the constitution, there is no where it mentioned anything about any zonal leader. We cannot be fighting for nothing and that thing is causing a division among brothers. We cannot be deceived by the devil. The development will prevent us from understanding the task before us, which is delivering Anambra State.” Ngige added that far-reaching decisions were taken at the meeting.
“We looked at our ongoing registration exercise state by state, and made recommendations on how we can get more people to join our party; our door is wide open. We welcome people except those who are disqualified by the membership clause in our constitution. If you belong to any other party or any other organisation whose aims and aspirations are detrimental to the progress of our party, you are not qualified.
“We talked about discipline in the party; we put up a disciplinary committee headed by Uche Onyeagocha. We also set up a fund-raising and finance committee,” he said.
Ngige said further: “After this registration, we move to the next stage which is to go on ward tours. We will visit 326 wards in Anambra State and plant our party flag there with our members and then sensitise the people. We then move to the general election, after our party primaries which will be around July.”
