Naira crisis: Ex-presidential aspirant urges FG, CBN to have a rethink

A former presidential aspirant, Mr. Stanley Osifo has advised the Buhari-led Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to have a rethink and address issues emanated by the poor implementation of cashless policy and Naira redesign in the country

Osifo in an exclusive interview with The Nation in Lagos on Friday said, provision of cash to people and institutions to enable effective management of national affairs at this point in time when general election is around the corner is very important and paramount.

He noted that the current shortage of Naira notes may have a huge effect on the fast approaching general election if it is not properly handled by the government and proffer solutions to the effect the poor implementation of the policy has brought upon Nigerians.

The Edo state born politician who described the cashless policy as a novel idea, expressed mixed feelings on the believe of many APC faithful that shortage of Naira notes is another ploy targeted by fifth-columnists to frustrate the chances of the presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the presidential election scheduled for February 25.

The former presidential hopeful anticipated that the policy will not affect the chances of the All Progressives Congress and its flagbearer, Bola Tinubu of securing victory at the poll, saying cashless policy being a good one is going to be a positive thing for APC.

“Just like INEC, political parties too need cash. There is no place in the world that elections do not involve cash. In a country like Nigeria where we are still developing, a lot of people that are going to monitor the elections in the rural areas, the polling agents, and so many other people involved, cash is needed to mobilise them and to get paid at the end of the exercise,” he submitted.
