The United Global Resolve for Peace (UGRFP), an NGO has called on the Federal Government to investigate the allegations levelled against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, by Sen. Hamman  Misau. UGRFP’s Executive Secretary, Pelumi Olajengbesi, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said that the Nigerian Police was losing the confidence of Nigerians. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Sen. Hamman  Misau, had recently  asked the IGP, to account for the N10 billion Police internally generated revenue, which he said amounted to N120 billion annually.

However, in his reaction, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said Misau was a deserter and would be dealt with accordingly. “As a deserter from the Nigerian Police, the force will definitely take appropriate action in this circumstance against Sen. Misau.” Olajengbesi said it was expedient for the allegations to be investigated and anyone found guilty prosecuted.

“The government must quickly look into the allegation of special funds allegedly received annually -N120 billion- by the IGP as payment for special security services rendered by police to corporate organisations and very important personalities. The government should also investigate how over 50000 police officers involved in such services had not been benefiting from the funds in same vein the unresolved matter of the special promotion of officers by the Nigeria Police that was fraught with irregularities and corruption,’’ he said.

The legal practitioner said that the present administration should not cast any doubt on its anti-corruption fight by getting to the root of the matter.
