FG bows to organized labour, stops petroleum subsidy removal

The Federal Government today announced its decision to stop removal of petroleum subsidy which was to start in few months. The decision may have been a way to bow to the pressure being put to it by the organized labour which had vowed to make the country ungovernable by embarking on a total industrial action.

At a meeting today attended by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, the Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed and the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Dimipreye Silva, the government owned up to the fact that it was inauspicious to remove the petroleum subsidy now citing bad timing. It said that it had made provisions in the 2022 budget to pay the subsidy beyond June 2022.

It would be recalled that the Senate President had few days ago hinted that the President, Muhammadu Buhari had not authorized the removal of petroleum subsidy and had not asked anyone to do so.
