Clean-up in FAAN and NCAA as all directors had been fired

The federal government has carried out a major reorganization in two major parastatals of the Aviation sector of the Ministry of Transport with the sacking of all the Directors in Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA andd Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN. Sam Adurogboye, General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, confirmed the development to NAN in Lagos. “It is true that the directors have been disengaged but I don’t have details of the reasons given for the action by the ministry,” he said. A total of 10 directors were reportedly sacked.

Those affected are Benedict Adeyileka (Director of Airworthiness), Justus Wariya (Director of Air Transport Regulation),  Adamu Abdullahi (Director of Consumer Protection), Ayodele Sasegbon (director of general aviation and Austin-Amadi Ifeanyi (Director of Human Resources). Others are Salawu Ozigi (Director of Finance and Accounts), Joyce Nkemakolam (Director of Aerodrome and Airspace standards), Aba Ejembi (Director of Administration) and Emmanuel Ogunbami (Director of Licensing).

The affected directors were immediately ordered to handover to the next in command in their various directorates. On October 12, 2016 the government sacked and demoted 22 directors and general managers of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The restructuring was based on the recommendations of the presidential committee chaired by Winifred Oyo-Ita, head of service of the federation.Hadi Sirika, minister of state for aviation, had said the restructuring would be extended to the NCAA and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

similarly, in a statement signed by FAAN’s Acting General Manager, Mr Henrietta Yakubu, said on Friday in Abuja,  the newly appointed directors are Group Captain U.S.A. Sadiq, Director of Security Services (DSS); Mr Rabiu Yadudu, Director of Airport Operations (DAO) and Mr Salisu Daura, Director of Maintenance and Engineering.

She added that Mr Aniefiok Umoh was also appointed as General Manager, Finance. According to her, the Management and staff of FAAN welcomes the new directors and General Manager and looks forward to a good working relationship that will add value to the system.

The federal government had in October 2016 sacked all the directors except one and 21 general managers over irregular appointment.
