Violence erupted Tuesday night in the Sabon Gari area of ​​the Kano metropolis as angry youths unleashed themselves.

Sabon Gari, inhabited largely by non-indegenes, is the epicenter of ethnic and religious violence in the state.

Security sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the crisis began when Hisbah officials went to make arrests in a red-light district on Ballat Hughes Road.

“At the moment, I cannot tell you specifically what happened between the Hisbah officials and the youth. All I can say is that the Hisbah operation went wrong and the youths started attacking and burning places, ”said a security agent.

Witnesses said there was a stampede around the Sabon Gari area when the thugs set bonfires. Other sources said that some people were killed and many others injured in the clash.

Kano Police Command spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa did not respond to our phone call.
