Woman arrested over fake credit alerts

Police in Kano have arrested a suspected fraudster, one Fati Umar Dikko, who allegedly specialises in generating fake bank credit alerts to traders to cart away their products. The suspect, a resident of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Gwale council area, was apprehended following complaints from three of her alleged victims.

Among the items she reportedly bought with fake alerts are four pieces of wrappers valued at N57,000, three pieces of lace material and one handbag valued at N90,000, six pieces of wrappers valued at N51,400. In all three transactions, the suspect made fake credit alerts and left with the items, it was learnt.

Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said upon receipt of the complaints, Commissioner of Police Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko raised a team of detectives led by SP Daniel Itse Amah to trace the culprit.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, saying she had defrauded many persons.

Following Fati’s arrest, four more complainants surfaced.
