USE THE AIR FORCE MORE TO FIGHT INSURGENCY AND BANDITRY, ADVISES ARCHBISHOP CHUKWUMA

The Anglican Archbishop of Enugu, Rt Rev. Dr Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma has advised that for insurgency and banditry to be addressed squarely and effectively, the Nigerian Air Force should be used more in the prosecution of the fight. According to him, it is now becoming clear to the security agencies that the war against insurgency and banditry is not a ground war only, that it is better the Nigeria AirForce do the surveillance from the air and identify the points of habitation of the bandits and insurgents for easy attack.

Archbishop Chukwuma who gave this advise in an exclusive interview with Drumnewsonline said that was the only strategy that would work effectively to tackle this insecurity. “ Because we hear about abductions everywhere and the Nigeria Air Force is not going through the air to make surveillance. If the ground is unsafe, the Air Force should go through the air to counter the situation”, he said.

Archbishop Chukwuma who is also the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical province of the Anglican Church expressed deep concern about the strategies being adopted by the security apparati of the country which have not yielded meaningful dividend, wondering if they were adequately equipped to fight insurgency and banditry. He lamented that the present administration was not delivering on the provision of security for Nigerians as it promised during its campaign pointing out that what we presently experience is not the change we hoped for.

Just yesterday over 317 students of Government Girls Secondary, Jangebe, Zamfara State were abducted from their dormitories by bandits and the incident came about a week after 27 students and two staff of Government Secondary School, Kagara, Niger State were abducted in a similar fashion. However the Kagara students had been freed earlier this Saturday morning. It was not clear how they were rescued and if ransom was paid to the bandits.
