Umueri women recently staged a protest against ceding of their land for the Cargo international airport in Anambra State. The women in a procession called the State Governor names disparaging his person. It was not clear if their protest had the imprimatur of the town leadership. It is believed that the protest must have been bankrolled by some eggheads in the community.

The airport project is at an advanced stage and speculated to be commissioned before end of the current year. It was conceived by the former governor, Peter Obi but the actual construction is being undertaken by Governor Willie Obiano.
