Student, motorcyclist killed as taskforce officials pursue vehicle in Ekiti

Tragedy struck on Friday in Ado-Ekiti Ekiti when a commercial vehicle rammed into a commercial motorcycle in Bawa Road, killing the rider and a student of the Ekiti State University he was carrying. An eyewitness said the driver of the vehicle lost control and rammed into the motorcycle when he was pursued by task force officials. “In the process, the driver of the vehicle suddenly ran into a commercial motorbike and crashed it into the bridge on the highway. The two people on top of the bike died as a result of the impact of the accident.”

Another eye witness, Mr Aliu Jamiu, said policemen quickly raced to the scene to control traffic. The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Maiwada Ismaila, confirmed the accident to our correspondent last night. “Immediately we were contacted we quickly mobilised our men. One of the victims died on the spot while the second died later at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.”

Ismaila said investigation had begun to ascertain the cause of the accident, promising to supply details on Saturday.
