Seven schoolgirls burnt to death, 10 others injured in a suspected arson by fellow students

A hostel fire has claimed the lives of 7 students and injured 10 others in Kenya last Saturday, September, 2017.. The fire was suspected to have been ignited by senior students who were fighting for positions in the school.

The Kenyan Education Minister, Fred Matiang’i was quoted as having blamed the fire incident that engulfed a female hostel on arson, saying it was probably caused by students who were fighting over senior appointments in the school.

Matiang’i was quoted as saying that there had been a spate of such fires caused by fights over senior appointments in schools. “It was not an accident, it was arson,” Matiang’i said of the fire at Moi Girls School in the capital. Seven girls were killed in Saturday’s blaze and two others later died of their injuries, he informed.
