Residents escape electrocution as EEDC electric pole falls in Lagos

Residents escaped electrocution as a bunch of live wires from a fallen electricity pole belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC,  fell after a storm and dangle dangerously in front of shops on 5th Avenue, Jakande Low Cost Housing Estate, Abesan, Ipaja. Drum News online learnt that the electricity pole fell more than 3 weeks ago and all efforts to get the company effect repairs had fallen on deaf ears.

Some of the shop owners have devised unorthodox means to tie the naked wires together to enable them access their shops while others have remained closed. One of the owners of the shops, who prefers anonymity, told Drum News Online that they had closed their shops when the incident happened but she had to reopen when she felt continued closure would not put food on her table. She showed Drum News online a new pole which workers of the company erected after several calls and visits but disappeared afterwards.

Efforts to reach Alimosho district office of the company was not fruitful as one of the staff interviewed declined comments. Until the company does the needful, danger looms.[
