Police in Bauchi have recovered 25 AK47 rifles and arrested 33 suspects.

Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, handed over the seized weapons to the Director of Operations, National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons  (NCCSALW),  Chris Owolabi, yesterday at the Command’s Headquarters.

He said the arms were seized between June 2021 and February 2022 across the state.

The arms included submachine guns, pistols and ammunition.

He said the arrests and seizure of the weapons were made with the collaboration of sister security agencies, other security outfits, and some non-governmental organisations.

Sanda said the 33 suspects were arrested in connection with kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and possession of hard drugs, among others.
