NBBF gets Interim management committee

Zenith Bank and nine other persons have been appointed by the federal government to oversee the affairs concerning Nigeria basketball

It would be recalled that the federal government recently slammed a two-year ban on basketball activities in the country, which means that the National Basketball teams have to withdraw from all international competitions they are involved in.

However, according to a press release by the Nigerian Ministry of Youth and Sports, a caretaker committee has been set up to administer basketball in the country. It is sequel to the dissolution of the two warring factions behind the crisis plaguing the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).

Zenith Bank would present a representative to the caretaker committee which also includes Dr. Henry Nzekwu, Udon Ubon Humapwa, Frank Jitubhoh, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, Peter Nelson, Group Captain Rahinatu Garba, Aderemi Adewunmi, Oluchi Nzekwe and Sani Adio (SAN)

“Following the recent directives of President Muhammadu Buhari on the state of basketball in the country and its withdrawal from all International basketball competitions for the next two years, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has announced the members of the Interim Management Committee(IMC) to oversee the development of the sport in Nigeria,” the full statement read.

“The Committee is to draw up programmes that will revamp basketball from the grassroots in Nigeria, revive its moribund domestic leagues and attract corporate sponsors for the development of the game.”
