Iwobi nominated for EPL award

Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi and his teammate at Everton Jordan Pickford have been rewarded for their impressive Everton displays by being nominated for Premier League awards for September.

The Nigeria international is in the running for EA Player of the Month as he continues to thrive for the Blues under manager Frank Lampard, catching the eye in a deeper central-midfield role.

Meanwhile, Pickford has been nominated for Castrol Save of the Month for two of his blocks in the goalless Merseyside derby draw on 3 September – the first for his effort tipping Darwin Nunez’s shot onto the woodwork, and his low save to push Mohamed Salah’s late strike on to a post.

Iwobi provided the assist for Neal Maupay’s winning strike in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over West Ham United as he was named player of the match, while the 26-year-old also shone in the Merseyside derby draw at Goodison Park.

Iwobi is on the shortlist for September’s award along with Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Spurs’ Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Jacob Ramsey of Aston Villa, and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Meanwhile, Pickford is up against Alisson for the Liverpool keeper’s save against Dwight McNeil in the Merseyside derby, Crystal Palace’s Vicente Guaita against Newcastle, Spurs’ Huge Lloris versus Fulham, and Danny Ward in Leicester’s clash at Tottenham

Voting for both awards closes at 12pm on Monday, September 26.
