The Federal Government through the National Broadcasting Commission has closed down some independently-owned media houses for non renewal of their opera ting licenses. Those affected are African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power FM owned by Daar Communications PLC, Silverbird Television and Rhythm FM owned by Silverbird Media group owned by Chief Raymond Dokpesi and Ben Bruce respectively.

The NBC in a statement cited non compliance of the media organizations to renew their licenses.
