Emenike’s donates to quintuplets’ in Abia, calls for special care.

All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Abia State Chief Ikechi Emenike has called for special care for the mother of quintuplets and her babies.

He made the call yesterday during a visit to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, where the five babies were born 24 hours earlier. He was at the facility to rejoice with the young mother and her family.

Oluomachi Nwojo, a 24-year-old final year student of Forestry and Environmental Management at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), was delivered of the five babies via cesarean section on Tuesday. The multiple births comprise three girls and two boys.

Emenike, who was represented by the Director-General of his campaign council, Chief Uche Ogboso, congratulated the parents on the safe delivery of the ‘bountiful gifts from God’. He also presented gifts of cash, baby formula, beverages and diapers to the family, describing multiple births as rare occurrence which demands holistic pre-natal and post-natal care. He said the mother and babies need to be assisted so that ‘the precious gifts from God would not bring sorrow to the family.

Nwojo Oru, the quintuplets’ maternal grandfather, thanked Emenike for coming to his family’s aid without even knowing them. He said his family was enamoured by his show of love.

Spokesperson of the hospital, Darlington Madubuko, said the quintuplets were the first of such in the institution in recent memory. He said: “We are familiar with delivery of twins and triplets until last year when quadruplets were born, and now quintuplets.”

Emenike added that the mother was given expert attention by consultants all through her pregnancy and delivery. “It is a miracle from God, but taking care of the five babies will be a big burden in this economic situation. We are begging the government, corporate organisations and private individuals to help the family to care for these new ones,” Madubuko added.
