EFCC Chairman, Bawa suspended from office

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in offiice . This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him. Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation. In a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation the EFCC chairman was directed to vacate office with immediate effect. It would be recalled that in recent time Mr Bawa has come under attack on allegations of demanding $2million bribe from the immediate past governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Matawale. The former governor was insistent that Bawa demanded for gratification from him. It is yet to be seen how far the present administration would go with the investigation. Bawa’s predecessors in office, Ibrahim Lamorde and Ibrahim Magu were faced with similar accusations and said to be under investigation which never progressed.
