Don’t politicise Buhari’s health –Yoruba groups

The National Committee of Yoruba Youth and the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Against Terrorism, on Wednesday, condemned what they described as the politicisation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health by some people. They said such development constituted a threat to the corporate existence of Nigeria as a nation.

In a joint press statement after a press conference organised by the groups in Ibadan, which was signed by NCYY president, Odeyemi Oladimeji, and CCSOAT secretary, Olufemi Lawson, the groups said false information about the state of Buhari’s health could undermine the unity and sovereignty of the country.

The group also urged Nigerians to appreciate the Nigerian Army, led by Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, in the fight against Boko Haram and the release of 82 Chibok girls.

The statement added, “We are particularly worried that the threat to our corporate existence may not be from the now defeated Boko Haram insurgents but the activities of tribal war leaders, ethnic jingoists, religious zealots and overzealous self-acclaimed activists, who feel they can play politics with the President’s health.”
