Nineteen-year-old Durodola, who has no fixed address, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms. He, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, the conductor committed the offences on April 26 at about 5.10.a.m. at Sabo area of Ikorodu, Lagos. Imhonwa said that some policemen on patrol caught the accused with a locally made pistol and four live cartridges. The prosecutor added that the police recovered from the teenager, some offensive weapons, ATM cards belonging to some people, an international passport and a driver’s licence, which he could not give satisfactory account of.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised). The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Osunsanmi said that the sureties must be landed property owners in Lagos State, gainfully employed and should provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government. The case has been adjourned until Aug. 31 for mention.
