The Chief Medical Director of Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Dr  Basil Nwankwo is dead. He was said to have slumped and died yesterday in Enugu where he went for a meeting. It was not clear the meeting he went for in Enugu before he met his untimely death which sources say was due to cardiac arrest. Dr Nwankwo’s tenure as the CMD is expected to end August, 2022. His former office was yet to issue a formal statement as at press time.

However, the Anambra State Government has issued a statement mourning the demise of the CMD. The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwudebelu, conveyed the feelings of the State Governor, Willie Obiano over his sudden death. The governor commiserated with his family and organization over the death. Dr Josephat Akubuike a former Commissioner for Health in the State, had been appointed as a replacement for the dead CMD.
