Nnamani’s campaign jingles dominate the Enugu airwaves

The political campaign jingles of the former governor of Enugu State, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, have dominated the air waves in Enugu State since the commencement of the campaigning window as allowed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as build up to the forthcoming general elections in February, 2019. Dr Nnamani who is staging a come back to the Senate under Enugu East Senatorial zone which he lost to the incumbent, Senator Gilbert Nnaji eight years ago is not leaving anything to chance in his bid to grab the exalted National Assembly position.

Reputed for having the best propaganda machinery when it comes to campaign jingles in the whole of Southeast geopolitical zone, Dr Nnamani’s campaign jingles are played almost every 3 minutes during prime times and for long periods in most radio stations in Enugu. According to political observers, the former governor has the war chest to prosecute the campaign as well as loyalists within the present government and party leadership in the state. Those forces helped him to defeat the incumbent, Gil Nnaji as well as Prof. Gab Agu, a professor of Law, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Enugu, during the Peoples Democratic Party primary last month.The incumbent governor, Chief Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is believed to be part of the Ebeano political family which he founded and would have been helpful to his comeback mission.

Again, his popularity seems to be soaring again with the help of the gingles which have become household songs amongst the citizenry of Enugu State reminiscent of his days as the governor. The gingles were those used during his two-tenured rule as a governor reeling out his achievements as a state governor.  If the indices were anything to go by, Dr Nnamani is likely to have an easy ride back to the Senate in Abuja and a lot of the contestants want to ride on his back to electoral victory.
