BREAKING: Peter Obi leaves PDP, writes the National, Ward Chairmen

A presidential aspirant Peter Obi has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obi, a former Anambra Governor, was until his resignation was the foremost contender to the position ahead of the other 14 aspirants vying for the presidential ticket of the PDP.

The letter conveying his resignation from the party was submitted to the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and had been forwarded to his Agulu Ward 2 chairman, in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State

In a letter dated 24th May, 2022 and addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Obi informed him of his decision to resign from the party and opt out of the Presidential race which had already been communicated to the Chairman of his local ward, Agulu Ward 2. He said thast “our national challenges are deep seathed and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My committmentto rescuing Nigeria remains firm even if the route differs”

Referring to the political brinkmanship taking place in the PDP, Mr Obi observed that “Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making” his |”constructive contributions”.

It is not clear Obi’s next political move as he was considered the foremost contender to the exalted position. It trended in the social media some days ago that he was under pressure to discontinue his political pursuit. Though it was not refuted by his media office, his sudden resignation may have given vent to the assertion. Few days ago, Obi visited 10 Downing Street, the seat of power in London, England and had discussions with the British Government officials the content of their meeting were not disclosed. However, his sudden resignation and dumping of his presidential ambition are leaving too many conjectures as to if he was asked to do so.
