Apostle Suleman shuns DSS invitation •Says his statement was on self defence

General Overseer of Omega Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, on Monday failed to appear at the National Headquarters of the Department of the State Service (DSS) in Abuja, News Express can report this evening.

Earlier indications were that he would honour the invitation, thus prompting mobile policemen to lay siege around the DSS premises owing to the large number of his church members mobilised across the country to accompany the cleric, who is accused of making inciting statements.

About 25 lawyers of Apostle Suleiman showed in front of the DSS office “but cannot be allowed entry because it is the man in question that has to be seen,” a DSS official told News Express in the afternoon.

A source said Apostle Suleiman was actually in Abuja but holed up in his room at Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

The cleric was invited to report at 10am for interrogation based on his advice that Christians should defend themselves against attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

Suleman had said earlier in the day that his invitation by DSS wa s in order. He told journalists: “I presume the right thing was done”.

“They have been in touch with me to come and that is why I am in Abuja, so that I can see them,” he said.

The firebrand cleric, however, stressed that he stood by his statement on self defence.

He said: “I was talking in my personal capacity on information from a reliable source that certain people in the capacity of Herdsmen were coming to attack me and I told the people around me that if it happens they should defend themselves.”
