Anambra Nov.6 election: Andy Uba loses again as court declares he was never APC guber candidate.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided by Justice Inyang Ekwo, has ruled that the All Progressive Congress, APC, never fielded any candidate during the recently held November 6 governorship election. The court today, December 20 , 2021, ruled that Senator Andy Uba, who contested during the election as the candidate of APC was never validly nominated as the party’s candidate and went on to declare that due to the faulty nomination, the party never complied with the guidelines of the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in nominating and electing a candidate. The court went further directed that the plaintiff in the matter be refunded the monies he paid to party to collect the nomination form and Expression of interest.

Chief George Muoghalu had approached the court to challenge the emergence of Uba as APC’s standard bearer in Anambra State flowing from the party primaries which was believed to have been fraught with fraud. Uba was said to have polled over 200,000 votes to defeat other 13 aspirants who polled , in between them, less than 10 percent of the votes of the entire delegates. Also, the aspirants were strident in the fact that there was no primaries election held alleging that results were cooked up by the party’s national officers delegated to oversee the party primary elections.

Uba’s emergence as an aspirant and later candidate in the election had been fraught with accusations ranging from fake educational qualification and party primary election result. He had come a distant third in the governorship election trailing All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidates with little over 53,000 votes and had been threatening that he would challenge the outcome of the election. With the court ruling today, Uba has mo locus to contest the result of the election which returned Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo as the governor-elect of Ana bra State.
