Air Peace of distress

Air Peace Airlines, one of the leading local operators in the Nigerian aviation industry, this monday morning caused a lot of distress to its passengers on Lagos-Enugu route. The airline abandoned the luggage of passengers in Lagos in what drumnewsonline gathered was as a result of a misunderstanding between the pilot and the ground staff which made him to take off without carrying passengers’ luggage. It was gathered from a source that works at the terminal, that the aircraft was fully loaded and in addition had more fuel because there was no fuel in Enugu. The cumulative weight made it impossible for the aircraft to carry the bags because of safety. However, the Load controllers could not rally round to transfer the luggage to the second flight that left almost immediately.

On landing in Enugu at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, some of the passengers, including expatriates, were stunned to realise that their personal effects, already checked in and identified by them at the foot of the aircraft were not loaded. Passengers who were in transit were the greatest hit as they were not sure what to do. An airline staff was counselling them pleading that alternative arrangement was being put in place to have their luggage ferried early in the afternoon by Medview, another airline that flies to Enugu. Until that palliative measure works out, the passengers are not at peace with the airline.
