Again! Inspector killed as gunmen attack police station in Anambra

A large number of gunmen on Thursday attacked the Ojoto police station in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. One inpector was killed in the assault, which took place in broad daylight. But the attackers were unable to burn the station as they were stiffly resisted.

Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu failed to confirm the incident, telling The Nation that he was planning to visit the area immediately and would respond after the trip

But a senior officer, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the attack, adding, “We lost one Inspector today again”. The source said police commissioner Chris Owolabi was preparing to visit the attacked station. An eyewitness told The Nation that the hoodlums came in three Sienna vehicles, but were repelled by policemen on duty.

“We are in trouble in this state now,” he said. “Nobody knows which way to follow anymore. The problems and tension being created in Anambra are too much for us to bear.”
