Gunmen who attacked Ebonyi police station killed

The Police and other security agencies on Wednesday night reportedly killed about five gunmen who allegedly attacked a police station in the state.

Sources in the area said the gunmen attacked the Ishieke Police Station in Ishieke, a suburb of Abakaliki, capital of the State.

On arrival, the gunmen reportedly engaged police men on duty in a shootout which lasted for some hours.

The incident, according to sources, started around 9 pm, with heavy shooting, scaring residents into hiding.

One of them, Tony Nwori, said the gunmen arrived the police station and started shooting sporadically in the air.

He said the gunmen engaged in a gun battle with the policemen in front of the station for over 30 minutes, before reinforcement from other security agencies arrived.

The situation later drew the attention of more security operatives including soldiers who came in their numbers to apprehend the hoodlums.

The gunmen made to retreat while shooting sporadically on the air through Odomoke Ishieke market along Nwiboko Obodo road.

But the security agents gave them a hot chase and neutralised them.

Police spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
