CSO urges calm as INEC collates presidential, National Assembly polls results

A civil society organisation (CSO), the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA), has urged Nigerians to bear with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the commission continues to collate the results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

The CSO urged Nigerians to remain calm and law-abiding.

The election observer group also urged the INEC to maintain a high sense of impartiality and neutrality.

CTA Executive Director Faith Nwadishi said this while presenting its preliminary report on the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections yesterday in Abuja.

The executive director said her organisation deployed 2,000 observers across Nigeria for the presidential poll.

She said: “As the collation process and election in places where elections were rescheduled continue, we urge all stakeholders to continue to conduct themselves in a peaceful and responsible manner.

“Specifically, we call on INEC to hold itself to the highest level of neutrality and accountability.”

Nwadishi said reports from its observers during the elections showed that cases of vote-buying and selling were still rampant in some areas.

“The phenomenon appears far from being eradicated from the polity,” she said.
