Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has has congratulated Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her recent reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In her statement, on Saturday.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted Okonjo-Iweala’s remarkable achievements during her tenure, emphasising her exceptional leadership qualities, unwavering dedication, and transformative contributions to global trade. The Minister noted that Okonjo-Iweala’s historic position as the first woman and first African to lead the WTO serves as a powerful symbol of progress and empowerment for women, particularly in Nigeria.
“On behalf of all Nigerian women, I am extending my heartfelt congratulations to our own Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as DG of WTO,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim stated. “This well-deserved recognition is a testament to her tireless commitment to fostering global economic progress and equity.”
The Minister further expressed pride in Okonjo-Iweala’s accomplishments, stating, “She is a huge inspiration not only to Nigerian women but to women around the world. We are proud of her achievements and the pride and honour she has brought to our dear country, Nigeria.”
She Okonjo-Iweala’s career is marked by significant contributions to economics and international development, with a focus on economic reforms, poverty reduction, and enhancing global trade systems. Her expertise has garnered numerous accolades and goodwill from various sectors.

Okonjo-Iweala had expressed gratitude to the 166 member nations of the WTO for their trust and support. She pledged to continue championing responsive, inclusive, and results-driven leadership that is essential for advancing a resilient, rules-based, and equitable global trading system.
