Soludo visits Nnamdi Kanu says the detained leader frowns at killing of innocent persons by elements claiming to be acting on IPOB’s behest.

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo yesterday, 13th May, 2022 visited the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu at the Department Of State Service detention cell in Abuja.

Governor Soludo who disclosed the visit in his Facebook page said the detained IPOB leader was in high spirit and that his visit was part of the consultations with critical stakeholders in finding a lasting solution to peace and security in the Southeast.
“I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu yesterday (Friday, 13th May, 2022) to felicitate with him and also as part of the wider consultations with critical stakeholders in search of lasting peace and security in the South East.
He was in very high spirits and we had quality and frank discussion in a very convivial atmosphere”

The Governor disclosed that Kanu was not in support of the killings of innocent people in the region orchestrated by some disgruntled elements, including the enforcement of sit at home regimes by unofficial and unknown groups claiming to be doing so on behalf of IPOB. Soludo in his facebook account stated: ” He expressed sadness over what he described as “sacrilegious killings” of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless “sit at home”perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.  He assured that if the opportunity arises, he will be glad to personally broadcast to his followers to maintain the peace.”, it concluded.

It would be recalled that the Ohaneze and elders from the Southeast had pleaded with the Federal Government to release the detained IPOB leader stressing that it would help douse the insecurity in the Southeast. The request was again made last week when the president, Mohammadu Buhari paid a scheduled official visit to Ebonyi State. However, Buhari reiterated his earlier remark that it was only the Court that could effect Kanu’s release as he was not going to interfer in the judicial process.
Kanu was forcefully extradited from Kenya many months back and has been standing trial on terrorism charges before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. His trial was adjourned to next week, May 18th, 2022.
