NBA Conference: Enugu State Govt suspends activities of MOT and other traffic enforcement agencies till 1st September

The Enugu State government has suspended with immediate effect all traffic enforcement activities of Ministry of Transport and other enforcement agencies with immediate effect till September 1st, 2025.

In a statement issued 20th August by the State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Dr. Obi Ozor, it ordered that ‘with immediate effect, all transport-related enforcement activities are suspended in Enugu until Monday 1st September, 2025’. The statement explained that the moratorium was to ensure seamless mobility and zero friction during the ongoing NBA AGC movements, “This also applies to all MOT enforcement contract operations”.

The statement further explained that “while enforcement is suspended, our primary responsibility is now traffic management. With over20, 000 visitors expected in the city, it is critical to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion around key locations, particularly the ICC, adjoining routes and key clusters.”

The Commissioner of Transport issued a directive that ‘officers are to direct traffic aggressively and proactively, ensuring orderliness across major junctions, terminals and access points; All field staff must caution motorists professionally where necessary, without harassment and intimidation; Any officer, unit or contractor found wanting will face severe sanctions, including summary removal from post, contract termination and loss of job; for absolute clarity, stand down all non-emergency enforcement activities”, the statement ordered.

The statement however said that only safety-critical and emergency responses (accidents. Life-threatening hazards, active traffic incidents) may proceed. Such actions must be logged and reported to the Permanent Secretary”.

The Annual General Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association kicks off from this weekend, 22nd August, 2025 till 30th August, 2025.
