Attack on Obi: Fr. Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry closed down indefinitely

The Enugu Catholic Diocese has closed down with immediate effect the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria under the leadership of Reverend Fr. Ejike Camilus Mbaka. In a letter dated 17th June, 2022 “To all the Clergy, religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu titled: Pastorial Injunction on attendance to Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy, Enugu” signed by Callistus CVC Onaga, Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, it observed that the happenings in the Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy, Enugu was capable of undermining the Catholic faith and  teachings.

It further observed with regrets that after ‘several fraternal corrections and admonitions to Fr. Camilius Ejike Mbaka, the Chaplain of the Ministry and after having given him pastorial directives and guidelines for the Ministry Chaplaincy, which he persistently violated and infulfilment of my pastorial duties as the Chief Shepherd with the obligation to promote and safeguard the Catholic faith and morals in Enugu Diocese.

“I hereby prohibit all Catholics (Clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending all religious and liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the due Canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded” the letter stated.

The diocesan Bishop said that his decision was based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr. Camilius Ejike Mbaka at the Catholic Adoration         Ministry were not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church.

It would be recalled that Fr. Mbaka had recently called out on Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential Candidate of Labour party in the forthcoming general elections lampooning him for being stingy. Fr. Mbaka went on to declare that he was not going to win the forthcoming elections a declaration which many Nigerians did not take kindly to.

The tirade of Fr Mbaka against Obi was the second in few years because Obi refused to donate physical money to Fr. Mbaka when he attended his annual harvest and Thanksgiving service. Obi had elected to execute any project of Fr. Mbaka’s choice than donating cash to him.

However, the latest step by the Diocese was silent on the status of Fr. Mbaka whether he would be transferred out of the diocese or not. But, the same later said that the process already initiated by the diocese was yet to end.
