If things work according to plans the federal government may concession the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu to the oil mogul and billionaire, Prince Arthur Eze.
According to a reliable source, few days ago a meeting was held between a delegation from the Ministry of Aviation, the state government, some key stakeholders at the airport and representatives of the business mogul. The meeting was to look at the land assets of the airport especially where the Nigerian Air Force, the Enugu State government and others were laying claims.
Drumnewsonline gathered authoritatively that the meeting which held in the office of the Regional Manager, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Mr Hillary Umunna was the first in the series of interface with the proposed concessionaires to ascertain the assets of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN and business proposals of the firms taking over the airports among others. The committee which was in Enugu at the behest of the Minister of Aviation Drumnewsonline gathered had visited some of the airports penciled down for concessioning.
It will be recalled that the federal government had expressed its desire to concession the international airports in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu as part of measures to efficiently manage the airports. However the aviation workers union had kicked against the plan stating that it was a ploy to corner government assets.
