The Federal Government has filed 8 new charges against the leader of proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. The amended charges were filed today at the Federal High Court, Abuja by the Director of Public Prosecution, M.B. Abubakar.
The new development increased the charges from its initial 7 to 15 all bordering on terrorism and treason. Mazi Kanu, who is due to appear in court tomorrow, January 18 will take fresh plea and his defense team file a defence before the matter will progress.
Watchers of the trial are of the view that the latest move was to buy more time and continue keeping him in detention as. It would take at least one month for the defense team to read the charges and file their response.
