Buhari: FG declares Tuesday a Public Holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared tomorrow, Tuesday 15th July, 2925 as a public holiday in honour of the late President, Muhammad Buhari. The announcement was made late this afternoon through a statement by the Honourable Minister for Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Abuja.

The President, Bola Ahmed Tinuubu had declared a 7-day mourning for his late predecessor and had directed that national flags shall be flown on half mast.

The corpse of rhe late former President was flown to Nigeria accompanied by the Vice President Alhaji Kassim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila. The burial will take place in Daura, Katsina State tomorrow, hence the public holiday declared by the Federal Government.

Former President Buhari died last Sunday afternoon in a Lodon hospital after a brief illness. He was said to have given up the ghost in course of a medical procedure. Buhari ruled as a civilian President for 2 terms from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressive Congress, APC banner. He was a military Head of State for few years before being overthrown in a military coup.
