Soldiers kill 56 bandits, rescue 130 abductees, 368 terrorists, family surrender –DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said that soldiers fighting the counter insurgency war in the North East have killed 56 terrorists and rescued 130 people held hostage by the terrorists in the last two weeks.

The DHQ also said the soldiers arrested 91 terrorists, collaborators, bandits, kidnappers, cultists and oil thieves, while 368 terrorists surrendered to soldiers in the last two weeks.

It listed the surrendered terrorists to include 53 males, 116 females and 214 children.

The Director, Defence Media Operations(DMO), Major General Musa Danmadami, made the disclosure at the bi-weekly briefing on troops’ activities and operational successes recorded in the various operational theatres of the six geo-political zones across the country conducted between September 8 and 22.

Gen. Danmadami said within the period, soldiers arrested two suspected terrorists’ collaborators  while attempting to withdraw the sum of N14 million deposited by a terrorist financier, named Alhaji Abubakar

He said the two suspects, who are in their twenties were arrested following a painstaking  investigation by a joint military task force, but said the details of the financier were still sketchy.

In the Niger Delta Region, the DMO spokesman, said soldiers discovered and destroyed several illegal refining sites, 17 wooden boats, 103 storage tanks, 94 ovens and 58 dugout pits.

The soldiers also recovered 10 trucks, one generator, one tanker, two vehicles, eight pumping machines and arrested 17 pipeline vandals, while a total of 7,805 barrels of crude oil.
